Useful Links: Greening Education Partnership

The Greening Education Partnership (GEP) is a global initiative that takes a whole-of-system approach to support countries to tackle the climate crisis by harnessing the critical role of education. It is led by UN Member States and is supported by a UNESCO secretariat.

The GEP network is an open global platform comprised of 97 Member States and over 1900 other stakeholder organisations, which include inter-governmental organisations, civil society, youth, academia, and the private sector. The United Kingdom is one of the signatory Member States.

Drawing on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)’s holistic approach to learning, the Greening Education Partnership aims to inspire action across member countries to empower learners with the knowledge, skills and values required needed to transition to inclusive and sustainable economic development.

The Greening Education Partnership is structured around four key pillars of transformative education:

• Greening schools: Greening schools for climate action and sustainability
• Greening every curriculum: Guidance to teach and learn for climate action
• Greening teacher training and education system capacities: Supporting Member States in establishing professional teaching standards
• Greening communities: Develop lifelong learning in communities to enhance climate resilience at the local level.

Each pillar has research, toolkits and case studies to support it.
